Planned departure: 8 AM. Actual departure: 10:30 AM. The Isaacs are world champion last-minute-ers. Josh knows where I get it from.
It was cloudy and drizzly when we set out, then we hit straight up downpours for most of the way, so I didn’t get many photos of the county scenery. But we did find a Sasquatch Hunter:
We pulled into a Walmart parking lot in Rome, GA for lunch in the now-compact camper. I suppose one downside to camper/rv travel is the difficulty in pulling into restaurant/smaller store parking lots. So this will probably be one of many Walmart Selfies on this trip:
We arrived at our Boondockers host site in Cullman, Alabama at around 3:30 pm. We put in 216 miles.
Our hosts’ home is on a quiet road surrounded by farmland. They have a pond stocked with catfish and bluegill, three ducks including the quite vocal and opinionated Baby Duck (an adult drake) and the incredibly sweet and spoiled-rotten Biscuit the Beagle (he insists on having his kibble in a cream-of-chicken-soup sauce and also loves bologna.)
We chatted with our lovely hosts on their porch for a couple hours, then Mom & Dad took a nap and I did some work at the table.
Before dinner we took a walk down the road a bit. The sun was starting to set and the roadsides along the pastures were full of honeysuckle, sweet pea, buttercup, and a bunch of other wildflowers with names that you should only call a stranger if you are a folksy southern waitress.
We ate dinner in the camper and started fantasizing about ice cream but we didn’t have any (the freezer is too small for anything family size) so we improvised with sliced frozen bananas with chocolate syrup and reddi-whip, which was SO GOOD.
Tomorrow we’ll do some sightseeing in the area and move on to Mississippi. ‘Night!
